This kicks off with a drumbeat and organ riff that lets you know you're about to hear someone come on to you, and Barry doesn't disappoint. He more than fulfills that promise with a (softly) spoken word introduction that sounds like hes whispering into your ear, so that by the time he starts singing "deeper and deeper" you know exactly what he's getting at. This was Barry's first big hit and in 1973, it rose to #3 on Billboard's pop chart and #1 on the R&B chart.
